The Secret Life of Bees is being released on DVD on February 3, 2009. You can pre-order the regular DVD here and the Blu-Ray version here.

“The Secret Life of Bees” will be revealed in theaters nationwide beginning today. The film is based on the 2002 bestseller by Sue Monk Kidd, and follows a young teen (Dakota Fanning) who flees from her abusive father to a South Carolina town that holds a key to her late mother’s past.

Traveling with her, her caregiver and only friend, Rosaleen, played by Jennifer Hudson, the two come upon a honey farm owned by the Boatwright sisters May, June, and August; Sophie Okonedo, Alicia Keys, and Queen Latifah, respectively.

In addition to the all-star cast, the film was directed by (she helmed the acclaimed “Love & Basketball”) and the film is also co-produced by Jada Pinkett-Smith. The film is as a much a power vehicle of black women as much as it is a story of black women. Perhaps “The Secret Life” will reveal more to Hollywood than the process of farming honey. (more…)

Last year, she made her film debut in Smokin’ Aces, followed by a role in The Nanny Diaries, staring Scarlett Johansson. Now she’s back on the big screen starring with Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Sophie Okonedo in The Secret Life of Bees.
